Report uploaded_image_5Hello from Berryessa!

This lake has been wide open for the last few months with this last two weeks being the best fishing of the season. We have been working vertical structure in the morning till around 11:00am or so and the moving out into 100 plus foot of water when it really warms up. The surface temp in the AM is running in the mid 70″s and around noon it’s already in the low 80’s. With the water temp climbing that fast you may need to drop your gear 3 to 5 feet in a few hours.

All our fishing right now is coming from the main lake around Skiers Cove to up past the Big Island. Look for good results on RMT Hyper Plaid, Bahama Mama, Watermelon and Mad Hawaiian Glow dodgers with Glow squids in blue, pink, purple cotton candy Assassin spinners in Crystal Pink-N-Glow , Crystal Popsicle,Crystal Purple-N-Pink Assassins.

This time of year I’m using a lot of scent from Pro-Cure herring, Kokanee special and sockeye slayer gel on the hardware.

Look for the best fishing to be during the week with less boat pressure and on the weekends I would get on and get your fishing done by 11:00am then it starts to get wild.

Report uploaded_image_15Mack fishing has recently been excellent and good numbers of mid-range 8-13 pounders are being landed with those running dodgers and squids in the deeper areas of the East side of the lake.

Cut-Throats continue to be landed throughout the water column although I have good success running 60-65 feet down with RMT hyperplaid dogers and lightening spoons.

Brighter colors seem to be the key to getting those reluctant bigger Cuts to hit. A nice 13.7 lb Cut-throat native was landed yesterday with a fusion and pink colored squid just off the Marina. Pink has been a solid go-to recently so I have used the bahama mama with a trailing crystal pin assassin.

Looking forward to having the cooler temperatures come soon which will really get the bite going for the cuts!

Good luck! Happy fishing everyone!

Report uploaded_image_14Fish are pre-staging for spawn. Target the fish holding on structure. Suspended fish are next years……please do not target the smaller fish to help assure we will have a good season in 2012. Use late season tactics. Jigging is productive, but tough on smaller schools. Give it 7-10 more days. The dam area, south island, bear creek, Peoria, Carson creek, the 49 bridge and above are all holding fish. Change colors and presentations constantly until you get them to go. Remember New Melones is a pink lake.We bottom bounced structure below south island, bear creek and the face of the dam to get Grant and Bob their limits. Best set-ups: watermelon dodger/ pink double glow, UV pink splatter super squids, bahama mama dodger/ orange super squid, purple watermelon dodger/ pink/purple assassin spinner. Best scent: predator, crawdad, freshwater shrimp/anise.

Report uploaded_image_13Fish are starting to pre-stage for spawn. It is time to change fishing tactics to late season techniques. Larger presentations, faster speeds, scent changes to predator and crawdad. 5.5″ dodgers, add spinner blades to your squids (super squids), 2.25″ RGTs and I prefer the Dakota blades (assassin spinners) this time of year. Fish the river channel 80’-130’ deep or aggressively fish (bottom bounce) fish holding on structure on points, drop offs and in coves. Jigging will be a good option in just a few more days.Dodger colors: watermelon, purple watermelon, orange watermelon and bahama mama. Squid, spinner and RGT colors: pink, blue, purple, purple/pink, orange, red, watermelon.Remember Pardee is an orange/red lake.We fished structure on the south end of the lake to catch William and Carl their limits.

Best set-ups: purple watermelon dodger/ UV jellyfish apex, watermelon dodger/ pink double glow super squid, bahama mama dodger/ 2.25” red RGT, hyper plaid dodger/ blue hornet spinner. Best scents: garlic, crawdad
